The actual band name is The Fuck-Ups, but to avoid being openly criticised of the profanity in their name, they shortened it down to the F-Ups. Eighteen and just out of high school, the F-Ups may be young, but the self-described outcasts and longtime friends have quite a handful of experience, having started their band in 1999. I have seen many Performer Series Jackson guitars over the years and they do not stand the test of time well at all. The weak poorly made floyds and the squealing feedback city toneless pickups ruin the guitars. The floyds on them, some cheap licensed effort start to deteriorate and do not hold their tune and they end up breaking and have to be replaced. Just about every Performer Series Jackson I have laid my eyes on has been ready for the bin. I did enjoy the necks I will give that to them but like the old cheap Forth Worth Texas USA Charvel guitars they do not age well and it would be a waste of you're hard earned cash for you to pursue this guitar. I could be wrong, but I believe this, the 2-sided yellow cover w/ black & silver labels, is the first edition. Well, to be clear, I believe the records w/ black & silver labels ARE the first pressing - but there are simply multiple covers. (The brown labels records are certainly the second press.) Here's my recollection: Upon hearing about the record on MRR radio in 1982, I personally purchased my copy at a clothing/record store in San Francisco's Mission District called, uh, the Compound? Something like that - I don't recall it being around for too long. At any rate, the record had just been released and the copy I purchased - and still have - sports the 2-sided yellow cover w/ black & silver labels. Furthermore, it came with the little stapled "FU82" booklet/insert as uploaded in the above images. Please note: said insert clearly states "1st Pressing." I'm certain the booklet only came with early copies, though not all, and did NOT come with any copies of the 2nd & 3rd press. (But yeah, that doesn't prove much, as the hand-cut, xeroxed booklet could have been randomly dropped into any copy the band put together along the way. Sorry.) My main point (don't want to imply "proof" since it's anecdotal horseshit possibly tainted by the haze of time & faded memories) is that I bought it within weeks of release and this is what I got. My second point is even weaker: I have a vague recollection of hearing that the other cover that came with the 1st black & silver label pressing, the white paper, baby & switchblade "1st Release Limited Edition" cover ( ), was actually only used because the band ran out of the REAL yellow covers. But hell if I know. I sure wish somebody in the know could clarify.
I was friends with Sean Touhy in SF. Good guy, always fun to get into trouble with. I have the record, but not the cover. Would like to purchase the cover if anyone has/knows where to get one.
You know how I can get in touch with Sean by chance?
If anyone an burn a high fidelity CD of this 7", I'm very interested. Message me at [email protected]
I can still remember the Saturday in 1982 when I went down to Clement street in SF and bought this along with the Urban Assault ep at a little hole in the wall old bookstore called "Green Apple Books" (I think that was the name?) for like $2.25 each. They had a little bin by the counter that was filled with avante-garde/punk eps. Man... those were the days!! Both are still in my collection, and are my two most cherished punk eps. That was the SF of yore...
i bought this when it first was released. later on I was able to obtain two copies of this on cd. i sent one to MikeIV Williams of EYEHATEGOD, and this one i still own is one of my fav eps ever.when i was in high school all the 'so-called punk rockers' i knew hate this because of 'Once I had a Brother.' they just couldn't get past that song. i heard the same thing when the Sex Pistols 'Never mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols', was released and i purchased it soon was always the same"well i like the music, but i just can't past that voice."(John Lydon) to which I give a big FU to those worthless piles of shite.
a few collectors have told me that this is the second pressing. but on here it states that the silver cover is the second pressing? which one is the 2nd press?
I think the silver cover is a second cover to the first press if I understand it correctly. The wax is identical to the first press. So depends on how you view it I guess.
i just saw this version for sale on ebay. this is prob the rarest record that i own.
I would love to own a copy of this.
