Aerial is a 2005 album by the English singer-songwriter and musician Kate Bush, released twelve years after her 1993 album The Red Shoes. It is her eighth album, and her only double album to date. Aerial is Bush's first double album, and was released after a twelve-year absence from the music industry during which Bush devoted her time to family and the raising of her son, Bertie. The anticipation leading up to the album's release was immense, with press articles devoted to Bush being printed months. Kate's first double album, Aerial, was released on 7 November 2005 and reached no. 3 in the UK album chart. As with 1985's Hounds Of Love, the album is split into two sections. The first disc, subtitled A Sea Of Honey and the second A Sky Of Honey. The album sold more than 90,000 copies in its first week of release and has now been certified as platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. UK music magazine Mojo named Aerial their 3rd best album of 2005 and the album recieved a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Album in 2006. Kate was also nominated for. Her first and only double album, it was released on 7 November 2005 after Bushs 12 year absence from the music industry. The album incorporates elements from the folk to the flamenco genres while spanning across 2 discs in a similar fashion to Bushs magnum opus Hounds of Love. The first, titled A Sea of Honey , carries individual tracks, all loosely connected by the theme of strong archetypes. Accompanying this, the second, is A Sky of Honey later An Endless Sky of Honey which houses a 9 track conceptual s. Songs in album Kate Bush - Aerial 2005. Kate Bush - King of the Mountain. Eighth album by Kate Bush, released by EMI Records on 7 November 2005. It is Bush's first double album, and was released after a twelve year absence from the music industry during which Bush devoted her time to family and the raising of her son, Bertie. The cover features a waveform of a blackbird song superimposed over a glowing photograph. The album consists of the following tracks . Fierce Kate Bush fans who are expecting revelation in Aerial, her first new work since The Red Shoes in 1993, will no doubt scour lyrics, instrumental trills, and interludes until they find them. For everyone else, those who purchased much of Bush's earlier catalog because of its depth, quality, and vision, Aerial will sound exactly like what it is, a new Kate Bush record: full of her obsessions, lushly romantic paeans to things mundane and cosmic, and her ability to add dimension and transfer emotion though song. So what of Kate Bush Aerial amounts to 2005's biggest genuine comeback save, perhaps, Kraftwerk's Minimum-Maximum not just that, but it's one of the year's most anticipated releases. Kate's stock have never been higher - aside from The Futureheads taking Hounds Of Love into the Top 10 for a second time and stating Kate as a major influence, plenty of other artists have gone on record speaking of their love for her. People like Alison Goldfrapp and Bjork probably didn't surprise anyone when they said this, but what about Outkast's Big Boi He&a. Aerial, a double album separated into chapters of A Sea of Honey and A Sky of Honey, is Bush's answer to a world outside expecting fireworks. That is, Aerial is no answer at all except to illuminate her love for her son, her life, and various distractions everything from Elvis, to the joy of washing clothes, to the digits in pi. Musically, this is reflected in a uniformly low-key backdrop of piano, pastel rhythm section, and, of course, her own lush palette of vocal textures. Initially, many of the songs seem muted, passive, dated- hardly reminiscent of Bush's previous adventures

Beautiful record, but absolutely the worst pressing in my collection. I've treated it with love, but it sounds like I've been using it to serve tacos.
Rather confusing as to why Kate decided to not use the same label as on the remastered vinyl, in a similar fashion to the other CDs. Also that the casing wasn't reformatted to the digipak style used throughout the Part I boxset. As much as I love the sound of this remastering campaign, continuity and consistency aren't great at all.
Great sounding pressing, apart from Kates voice, that sound a bit sharp in places. Removing Rolf Harris' part in a an understandable decision. Who wants a complete asshole on its album.
My copy was very noisy and had distortion in places. It was so bad I gave it away. I wonder how the remaster is?
I have the original 0946 3 43960 1 1, 343 960 1, KBALP01 pressing and it was indeed very bad but after a ultra sonic cleaning it came out beautifull in every way! I don't think it's normal to clean a new record but somehow in the production process something must have gone wrong. Anyway, once this record is cleaned, it sounds brilliant in any way! Anyone else expierenced this? Please let me know, kind regards from Schiedam
This one, bought it for 239 euro, with the Disco antistat cleaning fluid; do have very good results with this combination. May I ask, what process do you use for cleaning your records? Thank you

The original 2005 vinyl pressing was one of the worst I've ever owned or heard: soft, muffled, fluffy bass, crackle and non-fill throughout, distortion on peaks, heavy distortion at the end of each side. Really a shocking mastering job and dire pressing. I wonder if this reissue is any better?
what's up with "painter's link"?is that a completely different voice?
Yes, it now features her son, Bertie, as on "Before The Dawn". She has removed her (ex) friend Rolf Harris after he was convicted of sex offences :(
It was replaced with the live version from Before the Dawn to remove Rolf Harris' vocals (I assume due to his multiple convictions/subsequent jail time for decades of sexually assaulting minors).
OK, so the vinyl is quiet and the packaging (gatefold, booklet and sleeves) is fine, ...first rate in fact, but the remaster does sound different and I am not sure if it is better?!? Just different and not as comfortable to the ear. I'll need to do more listening and less comparing, as THAT detracts from the great music!
nice clean pressingi'd say it's missing instrument seperation, punch and some of the sizzleof the original but for the money a great buy and a no-brainer...get it
Disappointingly quiet pressing, also lacking in top end. Damn, I was so optimistic, too.
I might be saying something obvious, but have you tried cranking the volume? It's cut quiet, mmh-yes, but it's very dynamic for it and the pressing's good enough to withstand the gain boost necessary, and once you get there it opens up and top end is not lacking.
My copy has Disk 1 with the Side B label on both sides although the vinyl itself plays side 1 & side 2 correctly. Anyone else have this problem?
thanks for your feedback. FYI, I think the sound of this new release is awesome and my copy plays perfectly on all 4 sides - sorry yours doesn't. I've never had that on a new record. Can you send it back?
yes, me too and clicks and pops on side 1 as well
Bertie's voice is horrible. The feeling was removed in a sudden for 'An Architect's Dream' and 'The Painter's Link' songs. What a shame! Was the didgeridoo removed too? Against these policies!
If she cared that much she'd have wiped him from The Dreaming as well. Revisionist nonsense especially as Bertie's voice is indeed horrible. I'm sticking with my 2005 pressing.
well he did sexually assault 4 teenagers and kate wasn't too keen on having him on her reissue
I have to agree it was obviously necessary to make changes for the updated interpretations in the live shows but feel the original album should have been left as was. Revisionist history!P.s. Also agree about these changes spoiling these tracks for me.
I think this can stake a claim as Kate's best album, it's definitely up there.
So, I've now tried two different copies of this pressing and both has had the same issue: an incredible amount of clicks and pops on side 1 of vinyl 1. Anyone else have this problem?
My copy has the same problem and I will return it to the shop.Regards from Sweden
No, not at all. In fact, my pressing stunningly quiet. Sorry you’re having issues.
Snake Rocking
Mine is flawless! Good pressing! No clicks and pops... Nice one!
Mine is flawless, but I did have this problem with the 50 Words For Snow reissue. I took the time to de-static the Aerial one before playing it, so it's possibly at least partially a static issue.
Thankfully, no. Mine is very quiet and pop free (like all of them from Remastered in Vinyl II & III - thank goodness!)
Unfortunately, yes. In my case the first side of each vinyl has a tremendous amaount of pops and clicks.
Lahorns Gods
Excellent pressing, beautiful glossy artwork with accompanying booklet and subtle remastering; glad to see Rolf's vocal contribution erased too...
Bertie's voice erase the whole painting! These new 'versions' of both tracks are now awful! :|
Whitefang; his discography aside, his being convicted of multiple sex offenses is enough to warrant the change
"Spoken parts of "An Architect's Dream" and "The Painter's Link” by Rolf Harris are removed and replaced by Albert "Bertie" McIntosh, Kate Bush's son."Oh my gosh. I see why:
Ehm... what do you mean with "Rolf's vocal contribution erased"?
I'm happy to report that this reissue comes with the same art/lyric booklet as the original 2005 pressing. I was afraid she wouldn't bother including it in the reissue!

all the people with copies for sale for 500 quid crying into their cornflakes now the reissue been announced hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahahahah
There will still be some purists who will want the original, unaltered version, so I suspect there will always be people out there who will pay a premium for the first pressing... but I think those looking for $300 for a copy will find themselves still with their copies for sale years from now.
black coffe
Shame they cant release a version with paedophile Rolf's voice on.
The 2018 remaster has Bertie's voice replace Rolf's. It sounds fitting and complete too; a good move!
Kate! Reissue this record please! I want to give you money!
In dire need of a remaster and reissue - surprised one has not happened.
Hooray! Mine is on order, anxiously awaiting its arrival. And at several hundred dollars less than the original.
It finally has ! . . . . . .
My vinyl copy has no issues. Sounds great.
I've played this on my stereo and have not heard any problems at all (as described below). This is an album that definitely sounds better on vinyl too. It was $50 when it first came out and I would visit it at the record store until I finally bought it on sale. I am glad I have this and glad to hear it on vinyl. I think this is her best album. Her vocals here are much more mature and complimentary to the music. Some of her early work would actually get on my nerves after a while but not this album. Great album. Great Double Album to be exact. I am sure they will re-release this on vinyl again as it is a major turning point in her work. It will be revisited and celebrated for years to come.
I am hcv men
Save your bread and buy the CD version for $8.00 with shipping. Gains=Good sound )way more detail than vinyl when volume adjusted via your volume control) no distortion, losses- Artwork is small and hard to read, may not have player for reproduction in the future, Are the losses really worth $200 + to you?
Whether you hear the distortion or not depends on your pickup/tonearm combination. When it came out I was listening with an Van den Hul DDT II on my Clearaudio Unify and had heavy distortion. Now I'm running a Lyra Delos and Aerial plays just fine.
Dear Wisi, I'm sharing a pretty much identical story, though with different components. The Lyra Delos, apart from an excellent cartridge, has phenomenal tracking and tracing capacities, thus extracting the maximum from the grooves without breaking a sweat!!! In my case, I used to have one of the first Pro-Ject budget models, with a budget Grado MI hooked on. Apart from the average, yet musical sound, the whole system lacked in terms of tracking and tracing. Even on regular pressings that sailed comfortably elsewhere, there were issues on my set-up. Then I sold the oldie stuff and got a then new(2006) Goldring GR 1.2, with a Goldring Elektra cartridge hooked(factory set and aligned)... and what a huge difference that made, eversince, "Aerial" sounds fantastic, with only 1-2 secs of the slightest distortion in "The Coral Room"!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just picked this vinyl LP up at a car boot sale last weekend for two pounds, someone told me to check it here.I'm shocked!
It reeked of exhaust... putt putt putt putt putt putt
Best West
Wow. How amazing is that. I wish I could get a copy but this album is now very sought after. You bagged yourself an absolute bargain. Was it in good condition?
Could someone elaborate how this "unlistenable" distortion manifests itself? Apart from a slight loss of focus in the soundstage in Coral Room when listening very analytically, I really don't hear anything wrong... Maybe it's hit and miss...?
Unfortunately the 2nd album can have problems as well. The first side has some distortion in track C2, Prologue. From comments elsewhere I am aware that mine is not an isolated problem. Definitely time for a good repressing.
This currently costs a small fortune on vinyl. REALLLY needs a reissue! Everyone wants $200 for it (minimum it seems). Just be forewarned that the super-expensive sealed copy you are buying will most likely have some radical distortion on the first disc - "A Sea of Honey". No one will tell you about it because 1.) It's still sealed 2.) It was only played once and they can't remember OR 3.) They don't own a record player and can't tell you but still…sell an organ please and fork over the cash! Fun aside, this was a known issue when it came out and was never corrected as far as I know. My copy has severe mistracking on Side B of the first album. The second album "A Sky of Honey" faired much better in regard to noise and distortion in most reviews I've read, and yes, it IS worth it for that alone. Now choose a kidney.
Hope they have fixed this issue with the new repress.
What a silly thing to list disc 2 that. That's reason enough for me not to buy the re-release..!
I like it. It makes the second disc feel like one big song.
Excellent long awaited release. Perhaps a bit repetitive in themes, but very well developed and engineered. Her sense of humor and emotion show through well arranged beats and accompanyment. First disc is groovy and quirky... washing machines, number sequences and how to be invisible. CD2 is quite repetive, but like Ravi Shankar or The Greatful Dead, the longer developments entrance and guide the listener until an abrupt eject into silence. Definately an excellent listening album.
