You guys think this will get repressed?? I really hope so because this is the best thing i've listened to in years
"Looking Forward To You" is the personal favourite on this for me... it's funky and smooth af bassline gravitates people towards the dance, and that lovely uplifting synth-break, about 2:40 mins through, makes it all worthwhile... and obviously "Something (On My Mind) is a great one to open up with a silky tone
Love this release, especially Something (On My Mind). That one somehow never gets boring for me, despite almost no change happening. Anyone happen to know what instrument is playing those main chords (or what sample it is)? Really interesting texture achieved with that part.
Would love to know too. I imagine it could just be a nice rhodes emulator then crushed to hell and back
The record reads 33 1/3 RPM, but Something (On My Mind) appears to be too slow at that speed... Is anyone else getting this problem? What RPM is this track supposed to be at.
must be at 77 rpm thenAt least 10 words must be entered. Please enter at least 5 more.
In my opinion A long track like "Something..." needs a change or some sort of development. It's a nice vibe, but it's the same chord progression for 10 min straight. Maybe a solo somewhere at least?
Out of curiosity, what RPM are you playing the B side at? It says 33 1/3 but that seems to be too slow. Maybe its in my head? There is no other RPM posting on the album
Nah my dude it's all about the vibe my bad
"Take it to the Edge" is my favorite. Great Vibes!
Has anyone else noticed a repetitive popping/crackle sound on Looking Forward To You? I thought it was my needles but it's on the Youtube video as well. Might just be part of the original recording, I know he bounces stuff to tape...
i got the repress of 2016, does the Original have the same issue
i have a lot of experiance viewing wav files of recorded vinyl and these are not clicks from the vinyl, they look like digital artifacts, most likely he mastered it the wrong way and a limiter kicks in
Sadaron above the Gods
It is definitely part of the music, as it doesn't sound like regular vinyl crackle. Also, I cleaned the record and it's still there.
Yes, it is there. Perhaps a crackle from a vinyl sample left in?
my repressed copy finally arrived, b side is absolutely sublime
Got the new repress today. It appears to be the same as this one. Only thing I've noticed is that the Matrix/Runout etchings are on the wrong sides - anyone else got this?
Mine are on the same sides, but my sleeve has the same sticker as the original press.
Trash Obsession
I think Looking Forward to You samples drums from Aretha Franklin's Every Girl (Wants My Guy). Stellar record looking for a copy as well.
nOPE....Not even close. Totally different drum pattern and sound.
Think the sample is from Aretha 'Get It Right'. Sounds very similar
I love this music so much! 3 top songs by Jack J master of house music
another repress perhaps? :)
This is such an amazing release.Something (On My Mind) is my favorite tune.I could have really seen Nujabes putting that tune on one of his mixes... R.I.P. Seba
Worth mentioning: the original press has a blue centre label with white text and the repress has a white centre label with blue text.
Also B side labels are different.
Whats the sample on 1 & 3? Driving me slightly nuts...
Drums on A1 sampled from Aretha Franklin's 'Every Girl (Wants My Guy)'
the boomkat review for this is hilarious
juat noticed the comment further down, looks like the changed it but still sounds ridiculously flowery!
LoL!Superb, carbonated disco-house and good times boogie from the Pender Street Stepper and Mood Hut collective member. Doing it for Future Times, Jack J bubbles up the dub-scattered drums and walking disco bass of 'Thirstin' with soul-quenching vocals on the A-side, whilst 'Atmosphere' opens out across the flip with diaphanous jazz chords and a deep forest of shimmering chime trees giving way to a lissom boogie shuffle shivered with nifty edits from the top pocket.
great release! all three tracks are special
Boomkat on-line music retailer recently surprised itself by forming a critical opinion: "This is just the ticket for all those retro heads - totally inoffensive and mature-sounding dancefloor schmooze. 'Looking Forward To You' rubs soppy chords over a stuttering drum break. Sounds dead authentic, like." Ohhhh! Cutting words from the same website that said of a previous Jack Jutson release: "There's four tracks of a sort of deep house that's not afraid to push into the red, and in the process might p*ss off the purists, but that's always gotta be a good thing, right?"Still, Boomkat slating a record is something to be celebrated. They've been over-hyping every record released and calling it a review for many moons. If it was a 6 CD set of field recordings that no fucker has the time or inclination to listen to, they would have been shivering in ecstasy."Soppy chords" did make me chuckle though. Those chords would be shit in a fight.
seriously, the one fucking record that actually deserves to be hyped up... gets this from them? what the hell? I was always under the impression they gave a glowing description for every record, because you know, they're trying to sell a product... bizarre.
Great release, but is there any particular reason the cost on this one went up so drastically? The distributor price of Mood Hut titles has seemed to steadily increase since the label started last year.
All-Day doesn't distro Mood Hut titles (but they do distro Rush Hour titles, so they import in bulk which cuts shipping costs drastically) and I'm assuming Pacific Rhythm is the shop in Vancouver that the MH dudes probably sell stuff directly to. So every other record store in the States is stuck buying the titles from a distro who is also buying them from a distro, thus the $20+ price tag. It's a huge bummer for people who would like to support local record stores (whoa, buying records from somewhere other than a website??) and not have to pay ridiculous prices for new titles. I am simply pointing out that either the label or someone else in the supply chain has raised the base price on the titles since the label started, seemingly to take advantage of the attention the label has gained. It's too bad, because they are going to end up losing new / potential followers because lots of people won't even consider buying at 12" at that cost.
Can you not order cheaper it from pacific rhythm or all-day?
Rolling Flipper
OK, glad to hear it's not just a price hike happening during import, at least. £2 is a pretty drastic jump, I hope the label reassesses their selling price for the titles, and factors in how much gets added to that cost during import to the US. Even when music is great it's really hard to spend $20+ USD on any new release single...
redeye had this for £9. the other mood hut releases were £7. prices have definitely gone up!
Well Redeye had it in at £7.49 while Phonica had it at £9 so usual prices there. On the sound cloud page for this record Mood Hut have said that this isn't a limited release so look out for represses and avoid paying the inflated prices.
No, not the Discogs cost, the distributor costs, as new records for stores. They have been steadily raising the price of each release while the mastering (Curvepusher / Scape) and pressing (MPO) / artwork seems to be about the same. New 12"s should not end up costing ~$20 USD, which this one did, especially since last year when the label started the titles we're selling for ~$16 USD.
supply and demand, simply!
Moodhut: MH007 repress will be around in two weeksSo, don't waste your money for seekers of profit..
Really, really delightful slab o' wax.
"MH007 is not a limited record...if you miss the first few don't sweat it and don't feed the sharks : )"  Moodhut on twitter
Glad I came across this record, one of my better acquisitions this year! I especially love Something (On My Mind) for it's laidback disco-y vibes.
this record is NOT limited - do not grab this from the opportunists selling this at high prices, there will be more copies available
its all very mo'wax
What's wrong with people to buy this just to put it on discogs for 4 times the original price the day it's been released. If you want to make money go work on wall street but don't suck the money out of people who just want to listen to great music.
I think there are further copies on their way. There should be plenty to go around.
A the fxxk Men
out now
possibly the best mood hut release yet
Anyone know if the MH006 catalog code was just skipped? or if a release got held up? Thanks!
